NEW WAVE BUZZ
yeah.. ok, you could blame this all on reading too much NME magazine (you know how that can fuck with yer head) but, I'm going on a serious NEW WAVE postpunk / dancerock / fuckoff british music binge of late.. can't get enough of this shit..
and as anyone listening to Triple JJJ and reading idiot publications like NME will know all too well, it can be a real tricky business getting past all the hype and bullshit about "NEXT BIG THINGS!" to find to the good shit.. whilst obvious bands like FRANZ FERDINAND and THE KILLERS hog all the attention.. it's the smaller, sometimes overlooked bands that will more often REALLY have the shit yer lookin' for..
so.. yeah, with that in mind.. here's a quick post to list the latest *ahem* tune aquisitions I've made in the last week or so, that I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND you check out.. both new and old.. trust me, you'll thank me later ;)
GANG OF FOUR - TO HELL WITH POVERY
they're an old 80's band, and I think this is an old 80's track.. but, fucking HELL maaaan.. this shit sounds freakin' cutting edge and fresh.. it blows a lot of those wimpy pretender retro bands now out've the water.. put this puppy on.. play it fucken loud, and it'll fuckin' KILL YA.. :)
TEST ICICLES - CIRCLE SQUARE TRIANGLE
yeah, funny name.. and I swear they're ripping the idea off of local Adelaide act THE TESTEAGLES.. but no matter.. this is one fuckin' kickarse shredding post/dancerock beat freakin' juggernaut.. this song fucken tears shit up.. it ain't any of that wimpy fringe / skinny tie rock.. this fuckin' DESTROYS SHIT.. HELL YA! check these guys out before idiots like NME overhype them to death..
EDITORS - MUNICH
really synthy this song.. layers apon layers of reverbed and hammering guitar riffs with a Joy Division style wailing vocal and soaring keyboard howls.. but, cranked up to adrenaline speed.. yeah.. nowhere near as wanky as The Bravery or The Killers.. this is just one fuckin' solid track.. dig it up and throttle it..
BLOC PARTY - BANQUET (PHONES DISCO EDIT)
downloaded their remix album of "Silent Alarm" recent.. and out've all the other laptop tweaky remixes that really didn't amount to much of anything (except that Death From Above one, which is kinda cool) THIS is the one that stands out.. it's a real cool stabbing beat reworking.. check it..
MUNCHKIN - THIS IS GOODBYE (JAM)
hahaha.. yeah, ok.. so I know these guys.. and this is just a demo (and a drunken 2AM demo at that).. but, out've all their songs.. this one has gotta be my fave.. mixing equal measure bleepy electro / new wave darkness and fluffy downtempo grooves.. and it's catchy as all fuck.. I can't wait till the proper version finally gets unleashed so I can get me hands on it and remix something freakingly braindamaged with it.. if ya wanna dig it up, check out their smelly myspace site.. and you'll probably find a link to it buried somewhere in there..
oh, and these and a few other crazy influences I'll likely be working into new SUBWOOFER tracks.. so, best to watch out for it.. of course I wont say IF I'm working on any NEW songs now (I've learnt well in the past not to let the cat out've the bag too early).. but y'know.. keep it in mind.. it's gonna be a bad buzz, you'll dig it ;)
