they say little things amuse little minds..
well, guess it also could be said.. little things, can drive otherwise bigger minds to distraction..
a few weeks ago or so (I really cant remember)
I wuz deeply puzzled when my ICQ (an instant messager program) mysteriously lost the ability to screen e-mails..
it'd been my foremost weapon to catch spam mail before it hit my inbox and destroy it on the server..
I quite liked the convenience of it...
I'd log on..
ICQ would automatically load..
then.. incoming e-mail alerts would sound off..
I'd screen thru them all.. and pick off the spam to be deleted, before it hit my PC..
then.. one day, it went missing..
it didn't make much sense..
one day it was there.. fully functioning..
the next it wasnt..
I thought.. ok, there must be a bad sector, something screwy with the program..
so I did a full hard-drive scan.. came up clean..
I did countless reinstalls of ICQ..
and each time.. the e-mail screening ability.. would briefly appear.. only to forever disappear..
I once entertained the fanciful notion that ICQ central.. wuz actually actively altering my installed program to remove said function..
I considered that notion to be utter bollocks..
well.. think again..
at around 12:30AM.. an e-mail alert from ICQ fired off..
quite odd.. coz, for the last few weeks.. it wuz missing that ability..
and.. just as mysterious had that feature left.. it now arrived once more to do it's duty..
perhaps it wuz on holiday?
coz.. there wuz nothing I did to change it..
who IS fucking around with my programs when I'm not looking?
are ICQ screening my messages even as I type this??
WOT DO THEY KNOW!!??
it's a little thing, sure..
but it sure has me puzzled..
