the creative process is a funny thing..
and increasingly, to me it appears not all that different from brain damage..
a perverted yet beneficial form of mental illness..
could it be said that the fine line between genius and insanity..
serial killer and performance artist..
musician and drummer (hahahha, ok cheap shot there.. :)
no longer exists?
for the most part.. the process looks like a bit fat nothing..
a lot of arse scratchin, staring at walls, the ceiling.. the sky..
playing with bits of paper.. barkin' out silly voices..
contemplatin' the universe..
generally being a total random spaz..
you spend weeks, sometimes months..
adding little bits here n there..
re-assessing the situation..
taking many viewpoints..
it doesn't look like anything..
BUT.. don't be fooled!
the random lazy spaz-out..
is vitally important to the creative process..
it's not to be underestimated..
you can't rush shit like that..
(something I've learnt over the years)
but, then.. near the end of the process..
after weeks of random stupidity
you're going 24/7 beserker on it..
you actually need to consciously remind y'self to eat, breath, let alone move away from it..
everything else is secondary..
you're an obsessive compulsive loon..
you possess the social skills of a mildy damp hankerchief..
people think you're a raving loony..
and you're inches away from being commited to an assylum..
finally.. at the 11th hour..
you bring results...
a tricky situation to be sure..
coz, you'll be hopin' it's the best shit you've ever done..
you want everyone to tell ya.. "MA FOKKIN' BEEEEEEEEITCH!! THIS CRAZY MO'FO IS DA FOKKIN' XMAS SHIT YO!!"
(or y'know.. equalivalent non-ghetto rapper freak stereotype praise..)
likely.. at best, they'll be totally apathetic... like they're looking the cultural equivalent of a mildy damn hankerchief..
and likely.. you'll personally think it's a piece of shit, and reject it outright..
you more YOU hate it.. funnily enough.. the more they'll love it..
that whacked out psychedelic vision of pure genius you had in your head at the beginning
never translates 100% into the physical universe..
and it pisses you off...
and once again your back at square one..
to reknew the search for the perfect, defining statement of wot'ever lives in your head..
makes ya wonder..
being an artist..
is there ANY difference?
