here's wot it possibly a really misguided philosophical rant..
so, if you don't wanna read a whole bunch of fanciful and misguided crap that just gushed out've the top of me noggin'..
well, you'd seriously start to wonder why you visit this site and read this crap anywaze ;)
(big shoutout to who'ever actually reads this btw.. um, hi!)
yup.. I've been thinkin'.. (usually a dangerous thing..)
but, I've noticed over the years.. that despite our so-called accomplishments, despite our technologies, despite the cheesy propaganda we parade around to bloat our own species' ego.. claiming to be top of the food chain.. we, the human species have a rather distinct limitation, a design flaw.. the bigger we organise ourselves.. the more we fuck it up, to the point of seriously biting ourselves in the ass.. we think big, we plan big.. and sooner or later it fucks up big..
humans are great as individuals, as small groups, families.. as Tommy Lee Jone's character said in the movie, MEN IN BLACK - "a person can be smart.. but people are idiots!"
look around.. there's so many cases of humans, us, being so WAAAY out've our own depth.. that you wonder why we haven't become extinct 1000 times over..
here's a few things that really bother me, if I actually stop to think about them..
1. this so-called "surgical strike / regime change" war on IRAQ.. it's a simple plan to go on in with a great honkin' army.. topple an evil regime that represses their people and acts as incubator and fertilizer for nasty / pesky little terrorist groups.. free the people, ease middle-east tensions and SAVE THE WORLD!
- how can you not love that plan? it sounds like fun doesn't it? a real hollywood movie plot.. we send the soldiers in to save the world for our children!
it's a bug hunt, pure and simple.. we go in there.. we blow up all the ant hills.. and then we bring the picnic back.. YAY TO EVERYONE!
problem - it's made out to be a simple solution to a simple problem.. but the whole situation is much more complex, and waaay more fucked up.. something which I honestly believe we as a species are not even smart enough to fix.. it's just too big, there's too many factors.. it's being going for faaar too long, centuries, millennia.. one regime to the next,. one invading army to the next - the Sumerians, the Babylonians, the Egyptians, the Hittites, the Persians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Turks, the Crusades, the British, the USA.. how can we believe that some huuuuge organisation of people, whether it's the UN.. or the US army.. is just gonna fix it.. when all thru history, we've been throwing armies at it..
also consider (a) we have the Turkish army in the North itching to spill in to secure their borders and prevent a Kurdish state in Northern Iraq (considering Kurds also live in Turkey, this could course some serious domestic strife in their country).. if the Turks actually move troops in too far into Northern Iraq - they'll very likely spark conflict with the Kurds.. since they really dont get along.. and there's the USA in the middle, trying to keep both happy.. (b) we have IRAN threatening to send troops in, if too many stray missiles land in their terroritory, (c) we have extremist groups around the world signing up the faithful to fight for the IRAQI's.. (d) we have North Korea's version of "diplomacy" - test flying missiles over Japan.. (e) we have Pakistan and India testing nuclear warheads in an arms race that could get very ugly.. (f) we have rumours of the SYRIANS and RUSSIAN companies supplying weapons to the IRAQI's during the war (g) we know for a fact, during the 80's we had FRANCE, ITALY and the USA supplying IRAQ with ALL of their weapons of mass destruction.. (h) we have the USA calling upon another 100,000 troops to fight the war..
is this a surgical strike? suuuuure.. we like to believe that's all it'll take.. but, war has a habit of starting small / surgical and localised.. and then blowing up into something fucking huge..
can we ever fix this problem? I don't think we're ever gonna be capable of it.. it's beyond our abilities.. the bigger we organise ourselves to fix the bigger problems.. the more redundant our systems become.. and we're back where we started from.. communism works great as a theory, but as a country like the USSR it was a great big failure..
2. this wacky "SARS" virus, this mutated flu virus sweeping in from CHINA.. seems oddly reminiscent of a horror story you'd read a few years ago.. about a seemingly normal virus grown resistant to all the antibiotics we've developed to fight disease.. we find a seemingly simple solution to one problem.. we use it as a blanket cure.. a theory of EVERYTHING.. we abuse it.. and eventually.. it comes to bite us in the arse.. there's diseases now in some hospitals.. that are almost impossible to treat.. they're resistant to everything we've developed.. is the disease coming out've CHINA the ultimate nightmare of this?
spreads like a normal flu.. but, no cure?? did we develop it on purpose? as a weapon?? for a research grant??
We now have situations in a lot of developed countries.. where rates of childhood asthma are rising to such levels as to be the norm.. thru overuse of antiseptics, antibacterials.. creating the ultimate sterile conditions.. we then spawn a generation of people with no viable immune system.. upon contact with normal natural occurances.. pollen, peanuts, dust.. have near fatal results.. and instead of finding a solution to the source of this problem.. we merely find medications that act as simple stopgap fixes..
we spend years of scientific research and development to kill off viruses, to cure disease.. and realise.. to our horror.. that the cure could actually be worse than the disease..
and that's just 2 examples - war and pestilence..
we seriously don't know how to handle shit on a large scale.. consider the damage we're doing to the environment - air pollution, desertification of the land, oil spills, ozone holes, rising sea levels, multinationals screwing over whole nations and draining their natural resources, damage to the ecosystem thru chemicals that pollute the DNA.. there's so many chemicals we're pumpin out there that mimic female hormones - that we're seeing whole species of animals being wiped out coz they can't reproduce.. and this effect is cumilative.. it starts at the bottom of the food chain.. multiplies.. and finally reaches us at the top, in concentrated levels.. and we wonder why sperm counts are dropping to zero in developed countries that CAN feed their people, yet out've control populations in nations that are starving..
yup.. as people.. we're fucken idiots..
mob rule, crowd mentality..
we may think, individually we can be smart, inspired.. we can see the big picture..
but.. one million of us.. and we're all screwed!
yup.. you see a tiny piece of the puzzle.. like a war, and you think "we can fix this"
put those pieces together.. see the big picture.. and WHOA!! wot have we created??
makes ya think doesn't it? ;)
note: likely I'll edit this at a later point.. coz, likely I ain't making much sense here at 6AM :)
