when there's fuckall on tv in the silly season..
you're thankful for any minor morsel of entertainment you can find..
here's stuff I've been seriously diggin' lately..
it's this documentary on SBS at 7PM weekdays.. there's only 12 episodes from wot I know, but damn it's trippy shit.. I dig the trippy shit, I can't get enough of it.. and thankfully this show treats its nutjob subject matter with an even hand (so, you get the crazy.. and the sceptic all in one)
like, did you know.. that the national monument obelisk thing in Washington DC is 555ft tall..? but with 111ft of the structure underground to keep it stable.. it's a 666ft tall structure.. in the middle of a pentagram.. in the USA's nation's capital!! woooo.. spooky..
aaand.. in the 2000 USA elections - the BUSH campaign ran a TV ad against the AL GORE campaign with the subliminal text "RAT" flashed on the screen.. it wuz eventually discovered by media watchdogs and then pulled from air.
all these crazy conspiracies involving surveilance - project "CARNIVORE" (which is basically the govt sifting thru all electronic traffic - e-mails, websites, browsing, chats.. etc) and project "ECHELON" (another big and spooky oldskool style surveilance thingy..).
Yup, can't get enough of this wacky mindfuck stuff.. oooohyeah..
I got a reknewed appreciation for this show, coz when you're faced with SO MUCH SHIT.. you fall back on the favorites.. and, all year round this one comes up with the fresh goods.. each night, a new fresh bit of comical stupidity.. it's usually put on at stupid hours.. past 1AM.. but for all the celebrity antics its well worth it.. (I saw Robin Williams on it a few nights ago, it wuz a repeat.. but damn wuz it funny..)
DEAD LAST (on around midnight on Channel 9 / Wednesdays)
ok, this is pure B-GRADE goofball horror tv but it's actually growing on me - dig the concept.. nutty pub-rock band is cursed with an amulet that allows them to see dead people - their task, to help these dead people do their unfinished deeds so their souls can be laid to rest. I wish they showed more stuff like this late at night. Anyone remember "FOREVER KNIGHT" (that Canadian vampire show?) or that other crazy show from years ago that featured a vigilante dark judge on a motorcycle (and no, I'm not talking about "RENEGADE".. that wuz shit..). Damn that latenight paranormal stuff fucken ROCKED! (dunno about FREAKYLINKS tho'.. never quite got the vibe for that one..)
oh.. and occassionally Channel 10 will sneak a kickass cult-classic film on past midnight - they did BREAKFAST CLUB last week.. damn that wuz cool.. :-)
