THE ADELAIDE UNDERGROUND MUSIC SCENE KICKS AAAAAASS!
It keeps suprising me how much cool music is actually found in ADELAIDE.. but, they're well hidden.. underground.. never heavily publisized.. word of mouth stuff. You gotta know where to look and when.. and if you do.. you find some seriously kickass stuff..
this weekend wuz a bit of a musical treasure hunt.. sifting thru venue after venue.. hearing snippets of some seriously cool stuff.. like at 'MOJO WEST' (a little place I somewhat originally underestimated as YET ANOTHER red walled comrade-cheese decored mini deep-house nightclub.. but now I actually enjoy it's funny eclectic arty charm). There I saw the "NEW POLLUTANTS" - one of DJ TRiP's nutty side-projects with MC SPEED (this skinnyfreak schizophrenic freestyler).. really nutty lo-fi 8bit phat electro / hiphop (cranked out've an Amiga, hooked up to some mix-effects, scratch pads and a turntable) really gets ya bouncin' around the room.. damn nice stuff.. also caught a bit of "AMOEBA" - dude's that actually give minimal housemuzak a good name.. jazzy, chillout, laid back phat funk.. cranked out by 2 fiends on keyboard rigs.. listening to their demo CD right now (which the dudes gave to me for FREE! YIPEE!!).. really good stuff for a Chill-out Sunday. At 'ENIGMA BAR' caught a quick 1/2 hour set by these dudes called "DR GOODHED" - killa live drum n bass cranked out from a sprawling mass of little effects units, drum machines, samplers.. with a funkyass cute chick crankin' out evil atmospheric vibes on a keyboard to one side.. and some crazy-ass MC busting out occassional freestyles and tweaking beats at the other side.. fucken killa stuff.. really got me thinkin'.. "shit.. Adelaide has some KICK-ASS MUSIC"
weird to find all these dudes in the one weekend.. in the west end of Adelaide.. makes ya wonder, "WHERE HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN EVERY OTHER NIGHT I'VE BEEN OUT ON THE PISS??"
